Water Proofing: Protection to prevent water entering in internal and external building structures like toilets, swimming pools, water tanks, retaining walls, roofs etc.

Damp Proofing: Treatment to a surface to resist the passage of water in areas like foundations, exterior walls, metal surfaces, metal staircases etc.

Common Water Damage problems:
1. Corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete
2. Blistering of paint
3. Dampness on walls, roofs & Floors
4. Leakage in water tanks

Benefits of Waterproofing:
1. Increased durability of concrete structures
2. Reduce chemical attack
3. Cost reduction in maintenance
4. Prevents growth of dangerous mold

Types of Waterproofing:

1. Below GradeWaterproofing: Materials that prevent water under hydrostatic pressure and are not exposed to weathering.

2. Above Grade Waterproofing: Material / systems that prevents water intrusion under hydrostatic pressure and are subjected to weathering and pollutants.

3. Roof Waterproofing: Material / systems that prevents water intrusion into horizontal and inclined elevation.

4. Waterproofing of Water Retaining Structures: Material / systems that prevents water intrusion into horizontal and inclined elevation.

Below Grade Waterproofing
1. Basements
2. Foundations / Retaining Walls
3. Below Slabs / Between Slabs
4. Lift pits
5. Underground Car Parks

Below Grade Waterproofing: - SYSTEMS

1. Cementitious System:-  Crystaline, Cementitious
2.  Liquid Applied System:- PU, Acrylic

BGW CEMENTITIOUS SYSTEM :

Adequacy

1. Suitable for inside & outside application.
2. Easy in situation of repair.
3. Good preparation not required.
4. Used as a secondary waterproofing system
5. Suitable for above & below Grade
6. No movement capability.
7. Not suitable for traffic areas.

Crystalline System

1. Penetrate and reacts with the water in capillaries to form crystal, resulting in blocking water transmission.
2. Trowel / Brush / Dry shake on application method.
3. Long time chemical reaction.  Forms a part of the concrete.

APPLICATION WATERPROOFING

1. Points to chart
2. Surface Preparation
3. Profile Restoration
4. Waterproofing installation
5. Protection

Application Guide Surface Preparation
1. Chemical Cleaning - Removal of oil, grease, dirt, etc.
2. Mechanical Cleaning Scarification - Removal of thick overlay dirt, weakened material Blast Cleaning - Removal of laitance, dirt, efflorescence and weak surface. Acid Etching - Not reliable method. Used in areas where other mechanical cleaning methods are impractical.

Application Guide Surface Preparation Chemical Cleaning Mechanical Cleaning
(i). Surface Reprofiling Surface Defects - Honeycomb , Void , Tie holes, Fins & Sharp offsets

(ii). Surface Reprofiling Repair - Removal of defective concrete. Cleaning Reprofiling with cementitious / epoxy repair mortars. (Repcon S / Cemtec R44)

(iii). Surface Reprofiling Penetration (Pipe) - Grouting with cementitious grout / Repair mortars / Sealant .

4. Application Application Tools - Brush / Roller / Spray

5. Mixing (for two component)

(i) The two component should be mixed thoroughly until a uniform mix is achieved.
(ii) For cementitious coating, the powder component should be poured into the liquid part.
(iii) Mixing should be done by slow speed heavy duty drill fitted with mixing paddle.

6. Application Layers - Minimum 2 coats. Angle : Perpendicular to earlier coat.

7. Application Reinforcement (Optional) - Fiber reinforcement Effective junction /cracks.

Protection Waterproofing Surface: Tiles, Stone Flooring or Other.
